What We’ve Done
Rethink Citywide Group
Every summer we gather for six weeks to dream, document and take action on pressing issues in our schools. We create artwork, tell stories, meet experts and go on field trips. Then we present a list of recommendations to school officials in a big news conference.
During the school year, we continue our work in five weekend committees.
We’ve written four big reports about our schools:
- New Orleans Public Schools from the Students’ Perspective (2007)
- Kids Will Eat It! Fresh, Local Food and New Orleans Schools (2009)
- Time to Rethink School Lunch: Students Grade New Orleans Public School Cafeterias (2010)
- Sowing Seeds for Better Health: Students Grade New Orleans Public School Cafeterias (2011)
Rethink School Clubs
Rethink Clubs meet in six public schools around the city. Every week we sit together in circle, talk about what we want to change in our schools, and come up with solutions to these issues. Along the way, we play games, conduct interviews, make videos, and write petitions.
At the end of the school year we share our visions and ideas at a summit.
